American Mahjong Trainer

Master the card. Read the table.

Mahjee turns the hardest parts of American Mahjong into focused drills — reading the card, choosing hands, passing the Charleston, and reading opponents — with mastery tracking that resurfaces exactly what you're weakest at.

A joker covers the pair of 4 Dots. Pick up 6 Bam and 8 Bam to complete.

The trainer

Drills for every skill the game demands

Each drill runs on a real rules engine — not flashcards. It computes how far a rack is from any hand, which hands are still possible, and why one line beats another.

Card reading

See a hand's notation, name the tiles it needs — or go the other way, from tiles to the right section. Build notation fluency.

Hand selection

Deal 13 tiles, pick which hand to chase. The engine scores your choice on distance, joker flexibility, and tile availability — and explains the better line.

Tiles-away estimation

Guess how far your rack is from a target hand. The engine reveals the true number — the coach that competitors hand you passively is a drill here.

Charleston trainer

Given a starting hand and a pass direction, practice which three to pass — with feedback on whether the pass improved your position across viable hands.

Defense reading

Study exposures, name the hands they're consistent with, and answer the question that wins games: is this discard safe?

Jokers & dead hands

Know when to use, hold, or exchange a joker — and recognize the moment a hand can no longer be made from what's on the table.

Mastery & spaced repetition

Practice what you're actually weak at

Mahjee scores your mastery per section and per hand, then a spaced-repetition scheduler resurfaces the ones slipping away — so your practice time lands where it moves the needle, not where you're already sharp.

  • Every drill outcome updates a per-hand mastery score.
  • Weak sections come back on schedule, before you forget them.
  • Load a new year's card and section-level intuition carries over.

Engine-first

Built to load any year's card

The value lives in the engine, not any single card. Under the hood, every hand is machine-readable structure the trainer can match your tiles against — which is what makes real coaching possible.

01

Cards are data, not code

A new year ships as a validated data pack — no app-store release to add a card, and transcription errors get hotfixed without one either.

02

One engine, every card

The trainer never hard-codes a hand. It operates over whatever card is loaded, so the same drills work on next year's card the day it drops.

03

Offline-first

Drills and solo play work with no connection. Your card ships in the app; progress syncs quietly in the background when you're online.

Where it's going

Starts as a trainer. Grows into the whole game.

  1. Now

    The trainer

Card-reading, hand-selection, and tiles-away drills with mastery tracking. The core skills, on your phone.

  2. Next

    Charleston & defense

Charleston passing, “what are they playing,” dead-hand recognition, and joker drills — with spaced repetition.

  3. Then

    Play against bots

A full solo game against bots to apply everything, with an optional coaching overlay that surfaces live hints.

  4. Later

    Play against humans

Bring it to the table — real games against other players, plus more cards and publishers.
