The Card

Reading a hand

Pairs, pungs, kongs, and quints — groups of the same tile.

Groups of the same tile

Most hands are built from small groups of matching tiles. The size of the group has a name:

• A pair is two of a tile. • A pung is three. • A kong is four. • A quint is five (jokers help you reach these).

Repeated digits mean a group of that many — here, two kongs.
