Any Like Numbers: one number, three ways

Three hands where the number is yours to choose, which makes them the most flexible on the card.

These three hands are written with 1s, but the 1 stands for any number you like, from 1 to 9. What they insist on is the SAME number in two or three suits. A rack with three 5 craks, two 5 bams and a 5 dot is looking at this section.

Two suits, 30. Two kongs of the same number and six flowers. Every group takes a joker.

Six flowers sounds impossible until you remember there are eight in the set and a joker stands in for any of them. This is the one 30 on the card that is genuinely joker-friendly, and with two or three flowers in hand it is a real target.

Three suits with any dragon. The pair of numbers and the pair of dragons take no joker.

Three suits, each kong or pung with its own matching dragon as a single.

Note

Because the number is free, this section is where a rack with a lot of one number lands even when the tiles do not fit any other section. Count how many of that number you can see on the table before you commit: you need up to eleven of them, and there are only twelve in the set.
