The Charleston, Properly
Never a joker, never a pair
The two tiles that should not leave your rack.
Intermediate · lesson 6 of 22
You may not pass a joker. It is a rule, not advice, and it is the one Charleston rule everybody remembers, because a joker is the most useful tile in the game.
Passing a pair is allowed, and it is usually still wrong. You are handing away the one thing a joker cannot replace, and you are handing it to somebody who might be building around exactly that tile.
Note
The honest exception is a pair in a suit you have already decided to abandon. Two of a tile you will never use is just two dead tiles.
Reading ahead is fine. The path takes lessons in order, so this one ticks off once you get here.
