Calling a hand dead
When to say something, and when to let it go.

You cannot call your own hand dead. Somebody else has to notice, and that means the responsibility for spotting it sits with the table.
There is a genuine benefit: one fewer opponent, and more picks from the wall for everyone left. But only call it when you are sure, and say what you saw rather than just announcing it.
Tip
Among friends, a quiet word beats a ruling. Being right is worth less than the game staying pleasant.
