When the passing is finished, you and the player sitting opposite may make one final exchange. Anything from zero to three tiles, and you both have to agree on the number.
If you want to give three and they only want one, you exchange one. The smaller answer wins, so nobody can be pushed into breaking up a hand they are happy with.
Tip
Offering zero is a perfectly good answer, and a common one. It says your hand is settled.
Reading ahead is fine. The path takes lessons in order, so this one ticks off once you get here.
