Beside every hand on the card is a number. That is what the hand pays if you win with it, and the range runs from the gentlest hands up to the ones almost nobody finishes.
The price is a difficulty rating in disguise. A hand pays more when it is harder to build: when it needs tiles nobody discards, when a joker cannot help you, or when you have to keep the whole thing concealed.
Tip
A cheap hand you finish beats an expensive one you don't. Early on, chase the hand you can reach and let the points look after themselves.
